ok, so the course im doing at the moment is arts - geography, 2 psychology subjects and a drawing class...the idea was to get into education and teach high school, or at least study it until i figure out what i really want to do. The course is supported by the government, which means i dont pay anything for my course until AFTER i finish it and am working full time...then they take the money out of your salary over a few years.

So recently a friend told me all about this course he is doing at a really good arts uni. He's doing Graphic Design, is in 3rd year, loves it and is starting up his own business. The course sounds GREAT, like something i'd really enjoy and get have a good career with. Its NOT government supported so that means i have to pay 10 grand a year, while im living out of home as well. The plan i came up with is to defer the second half of this year which means im still enrolled at the uni, i can still go back and carry on and everything, but in the mean time i can work full time and save money to pay for the course if i decide to go ahead with it.

so thats the general plan, but my worries are am i jumping into this too soon? is it just a great idea that will lose its charm a year and a half...and 15 grand..down the track? Am i really good enough to do graphic design...i dont know. Im scared that if i dont go for it i will miss a great opportunity and maybe reject the career i was meant for...or if i do go for it, im scared it will just be a waste of money, time and effort and i'll be back at square one again.

My family thinks its a good idea, and thinks i should have done it from the start, but mum has her worries that i dont have a passion for graphic arts which you would be a must for the course, but i love all the computer programms they use like photoshop etc, and im quite creative so im not too worried about that.

anyway....thought i might just see other artists/graphic designers think about it and yeah...so any advice would be much appreciated

=)

wow. its been 4 months.

hey everyone, i havent done a journal in a while....so nows about time to do another...
lets see...i havent been around much lately, if i havent commented on your work, im sorry, i have looked at it, i just havent got time to write individual comments for everyone. I started uni this year, im doing a bachelor of arts and such is life, all my assignments are due in at once, so ive been a busy bee lately...and as a result, quite sick.

Drawing update? ummm i havent really dont much lately, not for lack of trying tho. I have a drawing class at uni, its a 5 hour studio once a week, and we have a model and stuff, but its not really the sort of work i'd put in my gallery, plus it is way to big to fit into the scanner lol. In my holidays ill probably do more and get some projects finished. i have one on the go...its a still from Harry Potter 4...so ill try and get that done and post it.

oh in other news...i hit 15,000 page views...thanks to everyone for that =)

cheers
claire.

wow...exams are finished and all of a sudden im plunged into a world of total freedom. i can do whatever i want, whenever i want....its the best feeling in the world! :w00t:
exams were ok in the end, maths methods (i think this is generally known as calculus) was extremely hard and art was just weird "have commentaries helped shape your opinions of artists works throughout the year? explain giving reference to artworks studied throughout the year and at least two commentaries"....umm..WHAT? i was sitting there wondering why the hell we were being examined on the way we have been taught throughout the year, not WHAT we've actually been taught. very strange lol...

so now all thats left to do is ....DRAW!!!!!!!! i am now fully able to draw as much as i want. i cant believe how little ive done this year but thats the way life is i guess! but yes......so i will be finally able to submit my first drawing in like 6 months! =)

christmas is just around the corner!!!! what are you gonna do this year??
